After two years of running my own business, I’ve finally set up my own mailing list - and here’s why you should too.

I know how easy it is to get caught up in social media - trying to keep up with posts, stories, trends, and algorithms that seem to change every week. It can feel exhausting, and sometimes it’s hard to know if anyone is even seeing what you’re putting out there. Sometimes it really feels like you are at the mercy of the platforms you are posting on…and you are.

Social media is a powerful tool, but it comes with real risks, mostly because you don’t actually own your content. Algorithms change, accounts can be suspended, and platforms can shut down features (or entire apps) overnight.

That’s why building a mailing list is a smart move. It’s something you truly own, a space where you can reach your audience directly without worrying about algorithms or platform changes. It gives you the opportunity to share updates, insights, tips, or even just behind-the-scenes glimpses in a way that feels personal and meaningful.

For anyone running a small business, I can honestly say it’s one of those things that seems simple, but can have a big impact over time. It’s not just marketing, it’s building a real connection with the people who already care about what you do.

Starting a mailing list has already given me a sense of control and focus in my marketing that social media alone can’t provide, and I’m excited to see how it helps my business grow in a more sustainable, intentional way.
